League Match- Lyon 3-3 Manchester United; It was a real thrilling performance from two teams at the top of the table tonight.
A Wayne Rooney brace and a Karim Benzema brace were the highlights of the night, as Lyon came back from a two goal deficit to salvage a point.
In the 4′, Rooney opened the scoring with a beautiful breakaway goal. It wasn’t long before Cristiano Ronaldo followed suit and scored the second. Down 2-0 at the half, Lyon had only 3 shots total.
In the 60′ minute Van Der Sar made a beautiful save to keep a Lionel Messi breakaway out of the net. But Lyon forwards Govou and Xabi Alonso kept feeding the ball to Karim Benzema, who finally netted a goal in the 72′.
The next play was a phenomenal through lob to Wayne Rooney, who immediately responded to the Lyon goal with his second of the night, putting the Red Devils up 3-1 in the 73′
Benzema hadn’t said his piece yet. He responded to the response with the third goal in 4 minutes, placing the ball into the corner at the 6′ spot.
The game at 3-2 with 15 minutes left, and the French Champions were still looking for an equaliser. Xabi Alonso answered the call with an 80′ goal that put the teams level. The transfer from Liverpool has 2 goals with Les Gones this season.
The game ended in a draw. Benzema continues to lead the scoring table with 20 goals, and Rooney now places third on that list with 8. Manchester united sit in first place now, one point above arsenal.
